Loved and Named
Scripture: Psalm 139; Luke 4:16–21
Before Jesus heals, teaches, or challenges empire, he is named. “You are my beloved.” Scripture, at its best, does not tell us how to climb toward God…it tells us who God already says we are. Psalm 139 speaks of a God who knows us fully and loves us still. Luke’s Gospel shows Jesus grounded in that truth before he ever confronts injustice.
In a world that constantly evaluates our worth…by productivity, success, or approval…God’s words cut through the noise. They do not flatter or shame. They affirm dignity, belonging, and purpose.
Practice: Choose one short phrase of affirmation from scripture this week (for example, “I am fearfully and wonderfully made”). Return to it when self-doubt rises.
Prayer: God who knows me, help me trust your words over all others. Amen.
