"The Land is Not Empty- Following Jesus in Dismantling the Doctrine of Discovery" by Sarah Augustine Book Study
“The Land is Not Empty unpacks the harm of the Doctrine of Discovery- a set of laws rooted in the 15th century that gave Christian governments the moral and legal right to seize lands they “discovered “ despite those lands already being populated by Indigenous Peoples. The laws were legitimised by the church and a misreading of Scripture.
The book provides much to think about and discuss. If you would like to join a book study group starting the week of April 18th and running for 5 weeks please register below. Although not an easy read, certainly a thought provoking one. The day will be determined after finding an evening suitable to those attending.
Definition of a Dirtbag – “Essentially, an avid outdoorsy person who escapes civilized society regularly to enjoy nature. For the record, it's a term of endearment."
You do not have to be a “dirtbag" to join this group. You just have to want to get out and hike with others. This group is for hikers of all levels. Feel free to invite your friends, neighbours or any dirtbags you happen to know to join us for our hikes. To get information on dates, times and locations, please register below.
This group promises some of the great TIFF movies but without all the “star action". We can't promise a sighting of Brad Pitt or Julia Roberts but we can promise some great films. Join us to watch and discuss some 2021 TIFF movies.
Feel free to invite anyone who would like to watch some great films. This group will be a combination of in person and online get togethers. For more information, or to sign up, please register through the link below.
Women's Study Group
Women are welcome to join a study group every second Thursday evening via Zoom. Sometimes we study a book of the Bible, sometimes a Christian book recommended to us. Please contact the Church Office if you would like to join. The Bible study will move into in-person meetings when the current Provincial guidelines have eased for gatherings.
The women's book club meets once a month on the last Friday of the month, currently on Zoom. They read a variety of books, not following any sort of theme. They have discussion questions about the book and have time to just chat as well. For more information about connecting with this group, please contact the Church Office.
