- As the story unfolds who do you think is responsible for the death of Jesus?
- In the synoptic gospels (Matthew, Mark and Luke) Jesus is suffering greatly at this point in the story. He is suffering so much that he cannot carry his own cross. In John, he may be defiantly standing up to Romans and to his own religious leadership by carrying his cross to his death.

- Was arriving at this point inevitable? Is there something that someone could have done – Peter, Judas, other disciples, even Jesus himself – that might have changed the outcome?
