Psalm 19:1-6

The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands. Day after day they pour forth speech; night after night they reveal knowledge. They have no speech, they use no words; no sound is heard from them. Yet their voice goes out into all the earth, their words to the ends of the world. In the heavens God has pitched a tent for the sun. It is like a bridegroom coming out of his chamber, like a champion rejoicing to run his course. It rises at one end of the heavens and makes its circuit to the other;  nothing is deprived of its warmth.

What is the most amazing thing that you have ever seen in nature?

What did you conclude about God as you gazed at this aspect of creation?

How did you feel?

What do the heavens declare about God?  How do they declare it?

Does this passage suggest anything else to you about God’s nature and character?

Is the bigness of God something that you think about very often?

How does this God that is beyond us, impact you?

Do your favourite worship songs and hymns portray God as transcendent (God beyond us) or as immanent (God within us or among us)?

What marvelous love the Father has extended to us! Just look at it—we’re called children of God! That’s who we really are. But that’s also why the world doesn’t recognize us or take us seriously, because it has no idea who he is or what he’s up to.

But friends, that’s exactly who we are: children of God. And that’s only the beginning. Who knows how we’ll end up! What we know is that when Christ is openly revealed, we’ll see him—and in seeing him, become like him.

Does seeing yourself as a child of God make any difference in your relationship with God?

If God is a loving parent…then what does that mean to you personally?

In what ways has God shown love to you?

What characteristics do you value in your Mom or your Dad?

What characteristics do you not value in your Mom or your Dad?

What characteristics do you value in God?

Are there similarities?

In what ways have your parents shaped your image of God?

In what ways is your relationship with god like your relationship with your parents?
