Welcoming and Affirming

We welcome, affirm, protect and support people of all 2SLGBTQ+ identities. We believe 2SLGBTQ+ people are made and loved by God, and that they benefit Christian communities greatly. We want to be a place that learns from, celebrates, and communes with 2SLGBTQ+ people, and we are actively looking for ways we can better educate ourselves as a congregation and learn from each other.

As a church we are trying to communicate sex and gender acceptance.  The acronyms continue to change and will continue to change as we learn more about sexual orientation and identity.  Language will continue to evolve.  In order to try our best to communicate with others we have chosen this acronym. 2SLGBTQ+.

This is an accepted acronym at this time in the Queer community.  It stands for Two-Spirit, Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer.

The term two-spirit does not refer to everyone in the queer community who is indigenous.  It is a term that is used by indigenous people who possess both masculine and feminine spirits and is used to distinguish indigenous views of gender and sexuality from western and colonial views.

The plus sign (+) is meant to acknowledge all the other identities in the Queer community who are not represented in the acronym.  We are open to new language and will change this acronym as things evolve.

We also feel that it is important for people to define themselves and let us know their preferred pronouns and terms of reference.
